With 10,000 years of history, see why spinners are choosing hemp again

Sustainable, efficient and with 50,000 possible end uses: hemp offers a useful product for a range of industries. Hemp fibres have been spun into fabrics for at least 10,000 years, but in recent decades, hemp has been a less popular choice for textiles. However, thanks to the crop’s natural benefits, for both sustainability and comfort, hemp is making a comeback in a huge range of industries, including apparel. Lithuanian hemp fibre supplier Naturalus Pluostas (Natural Fiber) joined Yarn Expo Autumn for the first time in September 2019, and experienced huge interest in their hemp fibres.

A sustainable supply chain, from the ground up: a case study of CCI

Cotton Council International (CCI) is a global non-profit organisation, which promotes US cotton using their COTTON USA™ brand. While they have participated at previous editions of Intertextile, in 2019 they took part in Yarn Expo for the first time. Birla Cellulose: a success story in China with the help of Yarn Expo

Birla Cellulose, a member of the Aditya Birla Group, has been one of Yarn Expo’s biggest success stories, all in a very short space of time. A manufacturer of cellulosic fibres with over 50 years’ experience, they began utilising the fair’s prominent position in the industry when they undertook their first major marketing efforts in China in 2013, successfully promoting their brand and products to leading Chinese and global players through Yarn Expo. Their initial experience proved so successful, that they now organise a Birla Pavilion at both the spring and autumn editions of the Shanghai fair to showcase their own and their partner mills’ capabilities.
